Support Belle and Baxter's Urgent Medical Needs

I am raising funds for Belle and Baxter's mom Laura Gallagher as they need our help.

Both Belle and Baxter are former rescue-only, euth-listed NYC ACC dogs. Both had medical or behavioral issues while in the shelter, and had been pulled by rescue and eventually adopted out. Most rescues stand by their dogs, even years after placement, if issues arise. In their case, Belle and Baxter’s continuing journey to health has been a very rocky one, and although their adopter has provided excellent care, they have been overwhelmed with unanticipated veterinary expenses.

Going back in time, Belle’s shelter intake data revealed an emaciated, severely neglected dog who was 20 pounds underweight. She is a diabetic, insulin-dependent dog, meaning her blood glucose levels and dosing need to be very closely monitored for life. In addition, this poor girl has endured additional ailments and expensive procedures: detection and removal of multiple mast cell tumors (MCTs); mastectomies for mammary tumors; repeated fine needle aspirations (FNA) for suspicious lumps; treatment for antibiotic-resistant UTI; bacterial tickborne disease (anaplasmosis) despite preventatives; and discovery of benign nodules in her liver. Despite all this, she remains a trooper with a great disposition!

What Belle needs now and why we need your donations:

 Follow-up with vet cardiologist to check out an enlarged heart and murmur detected at last exam

 Follow-up with vet GI specialist to confirm/rule out suspected chronic enteropathy (inflammatory bowel disease) suggested by ultrasound study

 Repeat bloodwork to determine the impact of recent diet change and a liver antioxidant on her enteropathy

 Special GI diet, liver antioxidant supplement, insulin & supplies

On July 24th, Belle went to the ER again. Her mom posted this: 'I’m with her at the ER for her heart, she has abdominal effusion and an enlarged heart . If anyone can help me out financially with any little amount, that would be beyond appreciated and forever grateful. Belle has been to another ER, urgent care Dr, her internist Dr & a Neurologist all in the last 3 weeks so you can imagine how much work I’ve missed on top of struggling to begin with.'

For Baxter:

Baxter had also been placed on NYC ACC’s euth list and was rescue-only. He originally entered the shelter as a stray, covered with demodex mange – likely a result of poor nutrition or allergies, probably the reason he was abandoned. Baxter, a high-energy, dog-selective pup, was pulled by the same rescue, but his freedom was short-lived. After a brief period in foster, he was sent to a board & train facility, then spent years in boarding before eventually being adopted. He tested positive for Lyme, anaplasmosis & hookworm after adoption, as well as for a beef allergy that tormented his ears until properly diagnosed. Baxter still suffers from another skin condition that has perplexed his vet and more testing is required. However, vet dermatologist consults are expensive. Baxter has also developed shoulder arthritis and is now limping for causes yet undetermined. The financial burden of caring for Belle and Baxter together is placing a huge strain on our resources and is delaying some needed veterinary care.

 Ortho consult to examine, diagnose (x-ray, scans) and treat (meds, PT, surgery?) pronounced limp

 Additional dermatology consult to diagnose and treat remaining skin issues

 Funds to enable Baxter’s overdue annual checkup and core vaccines
