Support Benji's Fight Against Thalamic Glioma Brain Tumor

Donation protected
First, we want to express our deepest gratitude for the love, support, and generosity we’ve received since Benji’s diagnosis. The past six months have been incredibly difficult, but knowing we have such an amazing community surrounding us has made all the difference.

For those who may not be familiar with Benji’s journey, last July, our lives changed when my sister, Katie, took her 10-year-old son, Benji, to the ER after he began experiencing severe mobility issues. A CT scan revealed a 5.6 cm tumor in the thalamic portion of his brain, later diagnosed as thalamic glioma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. Surgery was performed in August to remove as much of the tumor as possible, but only 30% could be taken out. Devastatingly, we also learned that the tumor extended to his brainstem, making treatment even more difficult.

Since then, Benji has undergone radiation and has been traveling regularly to Seattle for a trial treatment—a six-hour drive each way. While the treatments have helped slow the tumor’s growth, they are incredibly hard on him. He experiences frequent nausea, has little appetite, and his energy levels remain very low. He is no longer able to attend school and now requires constant care. The tumor has also caused occasional tremors, making even simple tasks more difficult for him.

Despite his incredible bravery, the treatments are often scary, and he needs continuous support every step of the way. Watching him go through this has been heartbreaking, but he continues to fight with so much strength.

Through all of this, Katie has hardly been able to work. Most nights, she gets only a few hours of sleep, yet she still tries to pick up odd jobs whenever she can to help make ends meet. But with Benji needing round-the-clock care and the frequent trips to Seattle, it’s nearly impossible to keep up.

Looking ahead, we know the hardest part is yet to come. We never imagined having to ask for more help, but the reality is that we are in need now more than ever. Continuing Benji’s treatments and ensuring he receives the best care possible remains our priority, but the financial burden is overwhelming.

If you are able to contribute, share our story, or simply send prayers and positive thoughts, we would be forever grateful. Your kindness has carried us this far, and we truly could not do this without you.

With love and gratitude-Katherine, Benji, Riven, and family.
