Hi all -

More follow up to come, but we wanted to share that because of the stay of eviction BestWorld remains open and we encourage you to continue to patronize them. Given the financial and legal uncertainty right now, the fundraiser remains open and accepting donations. Current plans are to go forward with the Friday fundraiser event as well, but if this changes we will communicate here.

We are continuing to respond to these changes in real time and will continue to update here as the legal and financial situation changes. Any donors who wish to rescind their donation given this change should reach out and will be refunded, and we will communicate with all donors before any funds are disbursed to give a final update.

After a last minute legal update, Best World has received a stay of eviction! Despite this change, the store’s rent and legal challenges persist and the future is uncertain. Given the last minute nature of the legal decision, the Best World staff may need time to digest the news before making further decisions. For now, given the uncertainty, the fundraiser is still open and accepting donations. Please be assured that organizers are staying in communication with Best World owners and staff on their evolving situation and will update this GoFundMe accordingly if anything significant changes with the store’s closure timeline. A sincere thank you to everyone who has so far contributed to this fund - the Best World staff are very heartened and appreciative of the outpouring of community support.

On Nov 23rd, BestWorld owners sadly let employees know they would be closing their doors on December 11th after a 27% rent increase from the landlords. With little notice, these 8 community members will be out of a job, after many have worked for BestWorld for more than a decade.

The Mt. Pleasant community is coming together with a fundraising goal of $40,000, which would help all the BestWorld staff pay their bills for at least a month while they look for new jobs and support BestWorld owners as they look for a new space after being part of our community for over two decades.

BestWorld has been serving the Mount Pleasant community for two decades. Now it's our turn to return the favor: Can you contribute a $25 donation to support our BestWorld neighbors through this transition?
