Support Beth "Bernie" Tabanera's Journey to Recovery
Donation protected
On June 10th, Beth Tabanera (or “Bernie” to some) checked herself into the emergency room after several days of severe headaches. Doctors determined she had a deep brain bleed that required immediate drastic medical intervention.
Later that day, surgeons removed nearly one third of Beth’s skull and flash froze it for reinsertion at a later time. This surgical procedure literally saved her life, though it left her with more than 500 staples in her skull.
Post-surgery, Beth was in the Neuro-ICU for a week and then she was transferred into the hospital to recover. In the early going, Beth experienced temporary amnesia, which included certain basic functions like walking and eating. Since she was allowed, she has been diligent in her daily therapies and recently returned home with full-time care from friends and loved ones.
Those who know Beth know that she is a fighter. She’s fought her way back from other medical emergencies in the past and this time is no different. Beth will require round-the-clock support, as she cannot walk stairs, cook, drive, or bathe herself for quite some time. Additionally, she will be required to wear a helmet to protect her head until the skull replacement surgery.
In approximately 2-4 months, once the swelling has fully subsided, surgeons will reattach the large piece of her skull that was removed.
It is unclear when Beth will be able to return to work and she is racking up heavy medical bills, needs to pay her rent, feed herself, and save to afford the second surgery and required hospital stay.
It is going to be a long road for her, but she says there’s no stopping her due to her strong will, determination, and faith.
We ask that you contribute to the fund to support her healing process and share this with others who either know Beth or want to help someone going through such a traumatic health event. Beth would do anything for her friends and loved ones, and this is a time for us to support her.
Thank you!
