Support Betty Allen's Funeral Expenses

Joyce “Betty” Elizabeth (Dunithan) Allen of Fort Ashby, WV went to be with the Lord and her “Pretty Boy”, her loving husband Ray, on September 25th, 2024. She passed peacefully in her home with her family by her side.

Born on February 11, 1928 in Westernport, MD, Betty was the daughter of the late Lawrence Bartholomew Dunithan of Bayard, WV and the late Maude Irene Swick of Cumberland, MD.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Raymond E Allen, her daughter Gail Louise Will, and a great grandson Nicholas Grimes.

She is survived by two daughters: Kelly Allen of Fort Ashby, WV and Christi & husband Robert Fletcher of Comfort, Texas.
Grandchildren: Wendy & Husband Jimmy Rodriguez of San Antonio, Texas, Angela & husband Frank Pentz of Hanover Park, Ill, and Paul Will & wife Nicole of Crystal Lake, Ill;
9-Great Grandchildren: Jonathan & Amber Zapata, Tiffany Zapata, Bradley Will, Briana & Eric Clark, Angelica & Nick Pavlovic, Mark Mitchell, Jakob & Johanna Zapata, Jeremy & Ashlyne Zapata;
4-Great-Great Grandchildren: Jeremiah Salazar, Julian Zapata, Juliette Zapata, Julianna Zapata;
and several nieces and nephews.

“Betty” was a registered nurse in High Level Care, Recovery and Emergency and spent 20 years working for Gorgas Hospital in The Canal Zone. Upon her retirement she worked in various hospitals in the Cumberland area including Memorial Hospital and Sacred Heart Hospital and at the Dawn View Nursing Home.

She was also a member of The Order of the Eastern Star while living in the Canal Zone.

Betty was an avid reader and loved gardening.

She will be greatly missed as the Matriarch of our family.

Friends will be received at Upchurch Funeral Home in Fort Ashby, WV on Thursday, October 3, 2024 at noon, with funeral service to follow at 1pm, officiant Pastor Loretta Brinker. Gravesite service to follow.

Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family would greatly appreciate monetary donations to help with funeral expenses.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, aides, and especially Darla, from Mountain Hospice for the love and care they provided to Betty and for their continued support to the family during this difficult time.
