Support Beverley’s Battle Against Ovarian Cancer
Imagine starting a new chapter in your life only to be faced with a life-threatening diagnosis. This is what my dear friend Beverley Keefe is experiencing as she courageously fights ovarian cancer.

I met Beverley while working at the University of Alaska Southeast (UAS), and we quickly bonded over our shared values and mutual appreciation for fostering a supportive and inclusive community. Beverley is one of the most thoughtful and inspiring people I know, always eager to share her incredible stories and lend a helping hand to those around her. Her strength and spirit are truly remarkable.

A few months ago, shortly after moving across the country to start her new role at the University of California, Beverley began experiencing stomach issues. After several doctor visits and scans, she was diagnosed with an ovarian mass that had gone undetected until recently. Thankfully, her medical team at both the Merced UC Davis Cancer Center and Stanford Cancer Center acted swiftly, putting together a comprehensive treatment plan that includes surgery and chemotherapy.

Beverley left her well-established community in Juneau to embrace a new life in California, and now she finds herself in an unfamiliar environment while battling this disease. Unfortunately, she started her new job just as her diagnosis came. This means she doesn’t yet have the PTO accruals or FMLA eligibility needed to cover the extended time off for treatment and recovery. As a result, she will be taking unpaid leave, which brings significant financial strain. Beyond medical bills, there are costs related to traveling from Merced to Stanford, potential hospital stays, and the time needed for her recovery after surgery.

Despite these challenges, Beverley remains incredibly optimistic. Her doctors are confident in her prognosis, citing her youth, health, and strong will as key factors for a full recovery. Beverley dreams of a long, fulfilling life ahead, filled with time spent with friends and family.

Beverley has always believed in the power of community and has dedicated herself to helping others through her fundraising and support efforts. Her unwavering commitment to those around her exemplifies the true spirit of togetherness. Now, it’s our turn to come together and support her in her battle against cancer.

Here’s How You Can Help:

  • Encourage: If you’re unable to donate, your kind words and messages of support can lift Beverley’s spirits and remind her she’s not alone in this fight.

Being miles apart from Beverley in Alaska is tough, but with your help, we can ensure she has the support she needs during this challenging time. Let’s come together to show her that she’s surrounded by love and community.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generosity and support.

With gratitude,
