Hi, my name is Bex, and I’m reaching out for your help to change my life—and the lives of my family.
In late 2021, my life changed drastically when I became seriously ill. Over the past three years, I’ve been diagnosed with multiple rare and debilitating conditions, taking me from a vibrant, able person to one who spends 95% of the day in bed.
Myasthenia Gravis, a neurological disorder that causes muscle weakness, impacting essential life functions.
Lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes widespread inflammation.
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which affects connective tissues and joints.
Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome (SMAS), a life-threatening condition caused by multiple issues affecting my digestive system. This will require future radical surgeries.
These conditions have left me unable to sustain my own life without medical intervention. I now rely on a catheter in my chest for nutrition and hydration and require a complex wheelchair for everyday activities.
A Family in Need
As a parent of two disabled children, my life has always been deeply intertwined with their needs and well-being. However, with my conditions and our needs, transportation has become one of the greatest challenges we face. I’ve had to leave my career as a writer and have become totally disabled. My life trajectory of a capabable sucessful woman changed drastically which has affected us in more ways than I can put into words.
What’s more, it’s no longer safe for me to leave the house without my wheelchair. I’ve fallen several times while trying to spend time with family and friends, resulting in head injuries and further damage to my already fragile joints. Without accessible transportation, these risks—and the isolation they bring—will only grow.
The Goal
We’re raising $30,000 to purchase a wheelchair-accessible vehicle with the necessary modifications. This includes:
- A reliable vehicle that can safely accommodate my complex wheelchair
- Accessibility features like a wheelchair lift or ramp
- Insurance, maintenance, and related costs for mobility customizations.
What This Means to Us
This vehicle will be life-changing for me and my family. It will allow us to:
- Safely attend vital medical appointments
- Reclaim the ability to spend time with loved ones
- Provide my children with opportunities to explore and connect with the world and spend time outside of our home together
- Reduce the constant fear of injury while trying to navigate without proper resources
How You Can Help
1. Donate: Every dollar gets us closer to our goal, and no contribution is too small.
2. Share: Please spread our story with your friends, family, and community.
3. Support: Your words of encouragement mean so much to us.
This fundraiser is about more than just a vehicle—it’s about safety, independence, and the ability to live life fully again. Your support can help me reclaim freedom and be the parent my children deserve.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for your kindness. Together, we can make this dream a reality.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Bex
