Hello everyone,
My name is Bianca S. Campbell, and I’m currently a fourth-year medical student at Howard University College of Medicine, planning on applying to Dermatology this residency application cycle. I've been working hard to become the first doctor, and now double doctor, in my family. As I approach the final stretch of my medical education, I am reaching out for your support to help me navigate a challenging financial situation that has arisen during this critical time.
In November 2023, I received my last disbursement of financial aid from my institution. Now that it's approaching almost a year since that disbursement, I'm running low on funds, especially now that I'm on my Sub-I on the other side of the country (Los Angeles, CA). I was made promises that I would receive aid by now, but since I have not I can barely afford transportation to my clinical sites and I've only been here for 4 days. It's been challenging trying to navigate which expense I will prioritize everyday (food, transportation, STEP 2 preparation, my bills). The uncertainty surrounding when I will receive my next financial aid payment has added a significant amount of stress to an already intense period.
In addition to the immediate need to support myself during this rotation, I am also facing the upcoming costs of residency applications. As many of you may know, applying for residency is a crucial step in my medical career, and the associated expenses—application fees, interview travel, and more—are substantial. Balancing these financial pressures while preparing for my second board exam, which is vital for my future as a physician, has been incredibly challenging.
I am dedicated to doing well in both my rotation and my board exam, but the financial strain is making it difficult to focus entirely on my studies. The stress of not knowing how I will be able to afford basic necessities is overwhelming, and I am humbly asking for your help.
Your contributions will directly support me in covering the costs of living during my clinical rotation, as well as assist with the expenses associated with residency applications. Any amount you can give will make a significant difference in my ability to focus on my education and succeed in this final stage of my journey to becoming a doctor.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for considering supporting me during this critical time. Your generosity means the world to me, and I am deeply grateful for any help you can provide.
With heartfelt thanks,
Bianca S. Campbell, PharmD
