Support Bill McSweeney's Cancer Treatment

A little over a month ago, #girldad Bill McSweeney started feeling really sick. During a doctor's visit on Friday, February 14th, Bill and the family learned he has been diagnosed with Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer with Peritoneal Carcinoma -- a somewhat rare disease in which fluid is present in cancer cells throughout his body. With this, Bill has begun the fight for his life.
Everyone who knows the McSweeney's know how close their family bond is, no matter where they are in the country. To the sisters, their parents are everything, and to the parents their girls are everything. The weekend of his diagnosis, the whole family was in Georgia to celebrate Bill's 55th birthday.
On February 18th, Bill began his chemo treatment at Emory Johns Creek Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, where he currently resides with his younger brother, John. He has a tremendous battle in front of him, with doctor appointments lined up for the foreseeable future.
His current treatment schedule includes:
- Four bi-weekly treatments of aggressive chemo - each treatment Bill has to go home with a pump still administering chemo for an additional two days.
- Weekly therapeutic treatments to extract fluid due to pain and discomfort - for the peritoneal carcinoma.
- In six to eight weeks, Bill will have follow-up imaging to see if he is responding to chemo and the tumor is shrinking. If responding well, he will continue with an additional 8-12 chemo treatments.
- Additional genomic testing is being done to try to identify specific mutations to target within the tumor.
The girls (Bri, Mollie, Makenna) and Christie will be rotating visits, to be with Bill during his treatments -- they are based out of Maryland and Denver, CO. Along with his sister, Jennifer, traveling from Boston.
