Support Blake Wright's Memorial

Blake was born on April 28, 2019 and was a healthy boy until our lives turned upside down on Wednesday, May 29th at 11:15 PM. Blake was nursing and began to choke. He was rushed to Nationwide Children’s ER by ambulance. He was then transported downtown Columbus to Nationwide Children's Hospital. As his mother was in his room and his father rushing to drive to the hospital, he lost his pulse. It took 35 minutes of compressions to resuscitate him. His vitals were all over the place, he was struggling to breath, and his lungs were very weak. His chances of survival were diminishing. He underwent emergency surgery to place a life-support machine. The ECMO machine pumped Blake’s blood out of his body through specialized tubes and into a system that oxygenates and removes carbon dioxide before returning it to his body with enough force to keep it circulating allowing the lungs to focus on healing. He made it through surgery and his lungs and vitals were making progress with use of the machine.



However, 28 hrs after his successful surgery, at 4:59 PM on Friday, May 31st, everything changed. They lost his pulse and were unable to revive him. We are not sure on the cause and an autopsy was ordered. The only information we know is he was healthy growing boy, aspirated milk and ended up testing positive for Parainfluenza 3.

The ECMO machine was the only option we had to try to save our son. We would like to make a donation in Blake’s honor to the ECMO team that tried so hard to save him. They were kind, caring, and compassionate through this terrible time and hopefully with your help this donation can save a child’s life.

Donations received will be sent to Nationwide Children’s Hospital ECMO team to help them succeed. If a specific cause of death is determined and research money is needed, we would like to give a portion of these donations to that cause.
