Support Families of Williamsburg Dr Relocate to Safe Housing

In September, a deadwood tree fell in the yard where our children play. We fought for months to get more taken down safely, but our landlord refused, citing money issues. They let us know they’d come back in November. Then the door handle broke, and we had to fight for weeks to get that repaired, only to have it break again within a month due to the faulty sliding system. For the third and final strike, we came home last weekend to find a notice on the door about unsafe water in our apartment building. Only to have it confirmed with medical tests that our youngest is being heavily affected by this environmental concern. We aren’t waiting for more results; we want out and to move on as this is the final straw with our rental company that has continued to show they do not take the health and wellness of their tenants into consideration. We have been relieved from our remaining lease. However, we need out, like yesterday. And we need help. We are pretty much a paycheck-to-paycheck fam at the moment, but on the ups, we just really didn’t anticipate moving at this point. We love the location and what the unit has to offer in general, but the health and safety well-being is what it boils down to.

We need help in finding money to cover moving costs to our next pivot spot, service donations to help with the moving, or just even childcare/meal drop-offs/laundry help. We also would like to donate what we can get raised to our neighbors, one of which is a single mom and needs support to move out and into a healthier spot, as well as cover costs of staff members who bought equipment out of their own pocket to fix the issues in this building.

Love to say this just started in September, but we and our neighbors have struggled with countless issues since we moved in, and the landlord refuses to do work to ensure unlivable conditions are fixed.
