Support Bob McGuire's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On Monday, May 13 Bob McGuire suffered a stroke at home. He went to the ER with symptoms of extreme dizziness and nausea. After reaching the ER and doing diagnostic testing it was determined that he had an ischemic stroke in the cerebellum region of the brain. He was then transferred to a branch of Swedish Cherry Hill hospital that specializes in stroke patients.
On Tuesday, May 14 there was little event of note until the early morning hours of Wednesday May 15.
On Wednesday May 15 in the early morning hours Bob's situation became life threatening. Once he was stabilized the doctor advised Bob and Melody that he believed that Bob needed life saving surgery to relieve the pressure in his brain. Bob was aware and speaking to the Dr and Melody and was able to consent to the surgery himself. The surgery took place and was deemed a success in that it did save his life, but the result was that the surgeon did have to remove a portion of the cerebellum section of his brain. The Dr said that while it was a life saving intervention that it would also be life altering. The extent of those alterations is still unknown. Bob was stable at all times during and after the surgery on Wednesday evening.
On Wednesday evening a phone call took place with the immediate family where we discussed Melody's needs. She is very appreciative for the messages and support, but that she is overwhelmed by communications. She articulated to us kids that she needs to focus on maintaining herself (and her employment) and supporting Bob in his recovery. It is worth noting that the hospital is a 50 minute drive away from their home so her down time is limited right now. So it is with her permission that I have set up this up so that their army of support can be informed and keep all the communications and well wishes in one place rather than individual text chains. It is simply too much for her to manage right now.
Finally, being that Bob works as a counselor he is a contract employee so if he doesn't work he doesn't get paid. Thankfully their health insurance runs through Melody's employer, but Bob will not be earning any income for the foreseeable future. He will have a lengthy road to recovery and it is also too soon to know what that recovery will look like. I encouraged Melody to allow their loved ones and community to help them through monetary gifts if they feel so inclined and she has agreed to accept any donations that come their way. I know that Bob would be honored and humbled at how many people have already reached out to express concern for him and want to know how they can help. I think the leading way that people can support the McGuires right now is through monetary donations and prayers. Your financial contribution will help keep their bills paid during this indefinite period of lost income for Bob.
