Help Bob Heal After Hurricane Helene Infection Takes Leg
Donation protected
While cleaning up significant damage sustained to his home and his elderly mother's home from Hurricane Helene, my uncle Robert Lutz contracted a rare, life-threatening infection from flesh-eating bacteria,Vibrio vulnificus, resulting in amputation of his leg. He's one of just a few hundred people in the U.S. annually who are unfortunate enough to get this awful disease, and as of now, one of a couple dozen who contracted it in the Tampa Bay area after the hurricanes.
On October 8th, while evacuating Tampa from Hurricane Milton's forthcoming landfall, Bobby was admitted to the hospital due to an infection in his leg sustained after Hurricane Helene. It had already spread to his bloodstream, began to cause organ failure, and resulted in sepsis. After multiple surgeries to remove the infected tissue, he sadly underwent an amputation of one of his lower legs in an attempt to save his life.
As of this writing, it is looking likely that his doctors will thankfully be able to save his other leg and he will survive. He remains sedated in critical condition and will hopefully soon be moved to a long-term care hospital facility to continue treatment and recovery.
I am raising funds on behalf of Bobby to help him with medical bills, long-term care costs, hurricane-related disaster repairs, and modifications that will need to be made to his home to accommodate this sudden change in his life.
Bobby is the type that would help anyone in need but would never ask for help himself; any amount you can give will help immensely as he recovers from this ordeal.
THANK YOU for your support and kindness in sharing this fundraiser with your network and donating if you're able. It is very much appreciated by our family.
