Support Bonita's Journey to Recovery

Dear Family, Friends and Animal Lovers,
In the past two weeks, my husband and I have been through some of the most challenging days we’ve experienced together. Bonita is our approximately 6-8 y/o Pit Bull/Lab mix who we adopted from Abandoned Pet Rescue on Sept. 20, 2023. In the short time we’ve had her, she, along with our other rescue dog, are our entire world. The rescue staff informed us that Bonita had spent most of her years in several shelters. From the moment we met her, we knew she’d be leaving with us on her way to her forever home.
Two weeks ago she presented with a slight limp, and within 12 hours her symptoms progressed to extreme lethargy, tremors and clear signs of distress. Because it was evening we took her to Blue Pearl, the nearest emergency vet hospital in Fort Lauderdale. Since then, Bonita has had multiple overnight stays and day visits to both All Aboard Animal Hospital, which is our primary vet, and Blue Pearl.
Between both veterinarians, Bonita has had bloodwork, urinalysis, x-rays, two ultrasounds, IV antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and various pain medications, including a methadone injection. After this level of diagnostics we were still left with no definitive diagnosis.
On 1/28, Bonita was scheduled for another overnight when we received a phone call at 5:00 pm from her veterinarian suggesting we immediately get her to Access Specialty Animal Hospital in Palm Beach County. Another two days of blood tests/cultures, pain meds, and a guided ultra sound. Bonita’s internal medicine specialist was also consulting with doctors at Cornell University about her case.
As of today, 1/30, Bonita is scheduled for a CT scan and tissue biopsies of he lungs and liver.
We are anxiously waiting and praying that after all our sweet Bonita has been through, we will have a specific diagnosis once the biopsy results come back. We are hopeful that a diagnosis will get her on the road to recovery. As you can imagine, we have felt helpless knowing that our baby girl is sick, has undergone so much already, and potentially has more procedures to come.
Initially, Nick and I were hoping to manage Bonita’s hospital bills without having to ask for help. Unfortunately without a diagnosis, her treatment is ongoing and the vet bills keep increasing.
We are humbly asking our family, friends and the dog loving community for donations at any level to help us get Bonita healthy and back home with us. No donation is too small, and if you can’t donate, you can help us share our story by posting Bonita’s GoFundMe on social media. Please know from the bottom of our hearts how much we appreciate your prayers, love and support. Thank you so much!
I have attached copies of our bills from all 3 veterinary hospitals under “updates” and will continue to update everyone on Bonita’s condition. Again, thank you SO much!
