Support Brad's Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On June 16th my husband and his best friend’s taxi were hit by a drunk driver while they were on a trip together in Vegas. He sustained a cervical spine fracture, multiple brain bleeds, and a significant traumatic brain injury called diffuse axonal injury. I cannot even begin to explain how livid, terrified, and despondent I am.
While he has been recovering in the trauma ICU in Vegas he has made some good progress: c spine fusion, tracheostomy then weaning from ventilator, and improving mental status. However, Brad’s brain injuries are largely in the frontal lobe, which controls decision making, critical thinking, and makes us who each of us are. What we are left with is a long journey to recovery. Doctors have set our expectations that Brad’s recovery will take years, not just months. While we are still unsure if insurance will partially or completely cover his medically staffed trip home to Cincinnati, we have been told to expect the flight alone to be between $40,000-$100,000. This plus uncovered medical expenses, skilled nursing facilities, neuro rehab, in home care, potential legal fees, possible modifications to our home to accommodate Brad’s injuries, we expect costs to run into the hundreds of thousands. Many of you have generously offered your time and money to help us on this journey and we are very grateful for that. I know all of you love Brad as much as I do and I so appreciate the support you have shown thus far.
