Support Brady Hatfield & Family

Dear Friends,

Brady Hatfield lives in Washington with his two wonderful kids, Tyson 18 and Jackson 20, and his fantastic wife, Sarah. Brady is suffering from Epithelioid Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumor, a very debilitating tumor that has led to an alternative life for Brady and his family.  Brady is a friend and colleague that  I have worked with over the last 15 years and someone that, if you knew him, you would want to help!

Please allow me to tell you a little about Brady. Brady joined me at Sunriver Resort, a Destination Hotel property outside Bend, Oregon, as a golf enthusiast in the role of Assistant Superintendent of the Woodlands Golf Course. He quickly ascended within our organization and was soon promoted to Head Professional of the Prospector Golf Course at Suncadia Resort in Washington. Subsequently, he was elevated to Director of Golf of the Prospector and Rope Rider golf course, and of course, then was promoted to General Manager of Lodge and Golf Operations.  You get it…he is a person that just gets it…and gets it done…without fanfare!

During the recession of 2008-2010, Brady was a leader of one of the largest resort communities in the Pacific Northwest—not an easy leadership role as the second-home community was hit the hardest of all classes of real estate and resort operations. Yet, Brady managed through it doing things he had never done before, and with a spirit of enthusiasm and commitment that makes me smile to this day. You see, if you know Brady, you know he is “doer” and the ultimate team player. He grew up in a household where his father, Peter Hatfield, was a career Golf Professional and teacher at the Augusta Country Club in Maine. His father is now retired but still teaches golf and is a member of Maine’s Golf Hall of Fame. “The apple does not fall far from the tree.”

While Brady is a true hospitality professional, he is a better father, husband and friend. Like many of you, he has spent time coaching his boys in sports; coaching the local golf teams or his boys teams, no matter the sport; and being an passionate and active community and family man ( he was the first one to take me to Central Washington University’s basketball game). He is an beyond my intelligence in all he does (Don’t tell him I said so!) and a quick wit with an acute sense of humor that can make anyone laugh! He adores his wife, Sarah, and beams with pride of his boys. They are his whole life! All said, he simply is a great man who is humble and who is fighting  the greatest fight ever in his life, with dignity and grace!

My wife, Stacy,  and I have struggled to find a meaningful way to help Brady and his family. All his life, Brady has been an athlete and has been focused on his health. The fight he has undertaken in the last couple of years, along with his family and friends—since no one fights alone-- has forced him to lose more than 50 lbs. from his muscular frame. He is now walking with the support of two walking sticks and, quite frankly, struggles on days to get out of bed. His motor skills are challenged each day with the mere ability to communicate with those he loves.  The community has shown their unconditional love by creating a website for Brady Strong(https://www.facebook.com/bradystrong2017) and showing their support at the local school events such as the basketball games and the like. He is simply loved by all and valued by the whole community.

As a father of three grown children for whom I am blessed, I want to do something to help, in addition to our prayers and thoughts.  The burden of substantial medical bills for treatments and ongoing care is extraordinary. Brady's family is awesome and they are doing all they can. They have never asked or even hinted; but I think they could greatly benefit from the help of those that can help.

There is absolutely no pressure to contribute but many of my friends have asked how we can help so I thought this was the best thing to do. Whether it is a dollar or something more, I know it comes from a good place and you can be assured it will go to good use.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU!   In the scheme of things, it is my sincere hope that I can help you when you need help…or a friend needs help. Call me any time! In the meantime, in our small way, let’s make a difference in this friend's life!

Happy Thanksgiving to you all,

Tom
