January 8, 2025, marked the first anniversary of Brandon Castro's mother, Janet Castro, passing away from cancer—a devastating loss that has left an irreplaceable void in his life. That same day, one year later, Brandon woke up to the terrifying flames of the Eaton Canyon Fire engulfing his home in Altadena, CA. With the fire spreading rapidly and thick black smoke filling the air, Brandon, in a state of shock, grabbed his backpack and fled the house, barely dressed. The heat was so intense that the glass, asphalt, and wood beneath him melted into his skin and socks as he escaped.

Brandon is the only son of Janet Castro, who adopted him at age six and rescued him from the foster care system, raising him with unconditional love and support. In 2023, Janet was diagnosed with cancer, and Brandon made the difficult decision to put his master's degree on hold to become her full-time caregiver. Together, they fought bravely, but in 2024, Janet passed away, leaving Brandon to navigate not only his grief but also the overwhelming responsibility of managing her estate.

Now, after the fire, Brandon is recovering from second and third-degree burns on his feet and smoke inhalation injuries. Despite everything, he remains determined to move forward and continue his education—a goal that meant so much to him and his mom.

While Brandon focuses on his recovery, his cousin Kelly Barragan and friends have come together to organize this GoFundMe on his behalf.
