2 Year-Old Jay & His Fight Against Cancer

On April 13th, 2024, the Lothspeich family's world was turned upside down with the news that their 2-year-old son, Jay, had been diagnosed with a cancer known as Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis (LCH). The shocking discovery occurred when his parents, Jason and Katelyn, noticed a tenderness and swelling on his cheek a couple of weeks prior that they initially thought could be a tooth coming in. A doctor's visit was followed by a visit to the ER. Jay was immediately admitted to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego, and in less than 24 hours, their worst fears were confirmed: a mass was found growing into the side of his cheek and jaw, and the resulting biopsy confirmed it was cancer. This news has understandably shattered their world, plunging them into every parent's worst nightmare. Many uncertainties lie ahead - major surgery is inevitable - and a treatment plan is yet to be determined.

Like many other families in these uncertain economic times, the Lothspeichs have faced financial challenges in 2024, and now, they’re confronted with the added stress of impending medical bills, loss of work, treatment costs, fuel & travel expenses, and a host of other unknown costs resulting from the care that will be needed for Jay. They are justifiably disheartened, discouraged, and overwhelmed with worry and concern for their family’s future and the scary journey that they’re beginning. How we all wish we could magically remove this experience from their lives. Fortunately, amidst the worst ordeal imaginable, Baby Jay, his parents, and big sister, Chandler, have a wonderful extended family standing by their side, to love and support them as they face this battle. he fight is on, and this family WILL overcome with victory – have no doubt. And yet, the financial burden will be catastrophic. They need our generous support.
