Greetings,
My name is Brent Coley. As of writing this, I am currently completing my 3rd year of high school. With me only getting older and 22 nearer, while you are reading this, please keep in mind that the time of action is not always a window open. Now is always the moment of action with later being something to stave off now. As Peter Marshall once said, “Small deeds now are better than great deeds planned.” No matter the amount, you are making an impact on my life’s story.
3 years ago, I discovered a YouTube video. It was a name that I had never heard of until now. It was titled “Bluecoats 2022.” Curiosity fueled my desire to watch the 12-minute-long deviation from my usual feed. Little did I know what I was watching would change the course of my life. Not only did the Bluecoats leave me astonished and completely hypnotized by their expertise in the marching arts, but it also led me to the world of DCI.
If you have never heard of this strange acronym, allow me to introduce it. DCI stands for Drum Corps International, an international organization that is often called “Marching music’s major league.” In its basic sense, it is just a high-level marching band, but it is so much more than that. DCI is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that enriches an individual with not only a new musical foundation but a new positive outlook on life. In this ever-changing world where communication is utmost, I also learn extensive problem-solving skills with big groups. Spending your whole summer traveling with the same people across America and performing and practicing on the hottest of days or the coldest of nights brings massive rewards, but so is the cost.
To march a full year at a Drum Corps, tuition can be between 5,000-6,000 dollars. This is one pretty penny, especially for my family. This is why I made this fundraiser. If you can, please donate any amount you can spare.
