Support Breyden's Recovery Journey
Donation protected
Hey Everyone! I am Breyden’s mom, Serena. On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, Breyden was accidentally shot in the legs. The bullet went into the outside right leg, then exited the right leg, entered the inside of his left leg, and exited the outside lower left leg. He was taken to Mercy in Waterloo, then med-flighted to Iowa City. Upon arrival he had vascular surgery on his right leg because the bullet tore through the artery in his right leg. He has a stent in his right leg behind his knee for the rest of his life. He has a wound vac on his lower right leg because he had a fasciotomy performed as well. His left femur is also fractured down to his knee.
Breyden is in a wheelchair and will be for some time. After that, it will be a walker, then crutches.
Breyden will have more surgeries to go through to get through all of this. He has many appointments coming as well. Everything is being done in Iowa City.
We are back home now and appointments will start Tuesday.
All funds raised will go towards his medical bills and travel expenses.
We appreciate all prayers and well wishes. If you can, we appreciate all donations as well.
I will post on this site only with all updates on surgeries.
Thank you.
UPDATE: 11/25/2024
Breyden had a fasciotomy closure surgery on Friday, November 22. The surgery went extremely well. The fasciotomy closed very nicely. We will go back in 3 weeks to get all of his stitches out of his right leg.
I did finally get to see where the fracture is on his left femur as well. The easiest way to explain it (without medical terminology names of the different parts of his bone) is that the bottom “knuckle” on the right hand side is ‘pulverized’. There is a lot of healing of this in order for him to be able to walk again on his left leg. He is wheelchair bound until the orthopedic doctor releases him to crutches or the walker.
Breyden is strong and is improving each day. It’s just going to be a very long road to his recovery. We have a lot of supportive family and friends to help us through this journey. We appreciate all the positive vibes, prayers, and donations.
Thank You Again!
