Support Brianna Sosa's Kidney Transplant Journey
Donation protected
Hello everyone my name is Brianna Sosa. I am 30 years old. I am a mother a wife and a kidney patient. I have been on dialysis for a year now, I am currently waiting for the call for my kidney transplant surgery. My husband and I decided to begin this GoFundMe in hopes of getting help with financial assistance. After my transplant I have to remain in Stanford for a month. During my recovery both my husband and I will have to stay in a hotel close to the hospital and we will also both be off work so we are asking for donations for our stay during my recovery.
For those who are unaware of my condition. I will be happy to share my story and how I ended up in this situation.
I was born with several birth defects. Spinal bífida, chronic kidney disease, a neurogenic bladder, reproductive issues and bowl issues as well. When I was born I had to have surgery right away because of my bowl and bladder issues I had a colostomy bag on my right side until I was about three years old and my doctors were able to reverse my bladder and bowl issues. I now have to catheterize myself every three hours due to my neurogenic bladder. (Neurogenic bladder is a condition where a bladder does not function properly and is unable to fully remove urine.) When I was three I had a bladder augmentation which I have to use catheters to empty out my bladder. I also have reproductive issues. I was always told I wouldn’t be able to have children cause of my own. When I was 27 years old I found out I was pregnant with my son Giovanni. All my doctors told me to abort my pregnancy due to my health condition. Both my husband and I decided to continue with my pregnancy and we prayed for a healthy pregnancy. Thank God he heard our prayers and we did have a healthy pregnancy up to my 20 weeks of pregnancy. I began having preterm labor pains at 21 weeks. I was admitted to Stanford hospital August 24, 2021. I was in the hospital for a week for observation. My doctors at that time said it wasn’t safe for me to return home since I was already having contractions so they wanted me close to the hospital. And they relocated my husband and I to Stanford. We were in Stanford from August 24 to December 11 of 2021. During the time I was in Stanford I was in the hospital the majority of the time. I started bleeding on September 12 when I was about 24 weeks pregnant. My husband and I thought we were going to loose our son , luckily everything was fine they kept me in the hospital for observation I was able to leave 9/30/21 but I still had to stay close to Stanford so the put us in the Ronald McDonald house. October 4,2021 my water broke so my husband and went back to the hospital and remained there until our son was born. Our son was born on November 11, 2021 and 11:11 am. He was born via c section at 32 weeks and 3 days old. Thank god my c section went well. After I had my son my kidney function began to decline which is something we expect due to the stress on them from my pregnancy. It wasn’t until March 2023 I had to start the process for dialysis. I had several surgeries to prepare my body for dialysis.
- [ ] March 3, 2023 I had a fistula placement in my left arm.
- [ ] April 27, 2023 I had a fistula transnational (movement of fistula)
- [ ] June 21, 2023 my fistula clogged
- [ ] September 7, 2023 I had an av graph placed in my left arm
- [ ] September 20 my av graph clogged
- [ ] September 25 I had surgery to unclog my av graph
- [ ] November 8 I had to have a chest tub place for emergency dialysis.
- [ ] I began dialysis November 17th
- [ ] 12/14 I had an av fistula placed in my right arm and it got clogged the next day. I went back to the hospital to get it looked at and they were unable to unclog it.
- [ ] 12/19 I had to have emergency gallbladder surgery my gallbladder was ready to burst.
- [ ] February 7, 2024 I had to get my chest tube replaced because it was coming out.
- [ ] October 8,2024 my doctors were able to fix my av graph in my left arm and I was finally able to get my chest tube removed. And I have been able to use my arm for dialysis.
Now I just waiting for my transplant. That is my story. I’ve been through a lot in my life and I’m still fighting. I’m fighting for my son. I want to see him grow up and become a young man.
If you are willing and able to donate help my family during my recovery it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. May God bless you and your families.
Thank you from the Sosa Family.
