Hi there, my name is Brianna Guy, but all my friends call me Brie! First, I want to thank you for taking time out of your day to read my story.
A vehicle that is better suited for my disability would greatly improve my quality of life. Not only would I have a major decrease in pain and injuries, but I would have more freedom to do the things I love!
I have a disability called Classical Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, and in July of 2023, I had a complication that resulted in an incomplete spinal cord injury at C6. I am still at risk of further injury due to cEDS making my neck extremely unstable. This injury has altered my ability to walk, use my hands, regulate my body temperature, and so much more.
I am fighting harder than ever before for my independence, and this is where I need your help so I can get back to the things I love and prevent further damage.
An accessible vehicle with hand controls would allow me to drive independently and safely without taking a major toll on my body. My current vehicle requires me to disassemble my wheelchair and lift the parts over my body. This is causing damage to my shoulders, and it limits my ability to go places on my own. I often can't even find the strength to unload my wheelchair by hand, and I'm stuck in my car until someone can come help me. My life is regularly limited by how many times I can pick up my wheelchair in a day. Additionally, the temporary hand controls that allow me to drive without the use of my legs are prone to malfunction, resulting in terrifying situations. It is abundantly clear that a safe and reliable car is needed to protect my health and my life.
Unfortunately, the steps to getting an accessible vehicle are expensive, and I need your help.
Your donation will go towards the cost of the vehicle, the certifications, the adaptations, and other expenses, and ultimately to a life of hanging out with friends, being able to work, travel, get back into dog sports, and all other joys of life. Anything you are able to contribute is greatly appreciated! If you are not in a place to donate, please share with your friends and family. Every little thing helps and goes directly to the cost of making my life more accessible! Can you help me be independent again?
Thank you <3
