Hi! I’m Lydia, lover of quality pastries and coffee, and... bringer of Bun Appétit :) Inspired by French pastries in the form of a brioche bun (hence, the name!), all of our pastries and donuts are made fresh daily from scratch.

Growing up, I was always interested in and dreamt of owning my own pastry and coffee shop someday. I couldn’t ignore this dream—as an avid coffee and pastry lover, I found myself wishing I didn’t have to travel so far to SF or the Peninsula to satisfy a craving. I was certain others were in the same boat. I wanted to be able to bring this to the Fremont area I grew up in and call home.

My dream started to become a reality when I gave up my graphic design career (another huge passion of mine!) and shifted all of my focus and energy into three challenging yet exciting years of planning and bringing to life Bun Appétit. It became my life, my motivation, my everything.

It has been a particularly difficult time for everyone as of late. Forced to rapidly adapt to these drastic changes, we’ve been scrambling to maintain operation of our store for our community. We’ve already had to drastically cut down hours for both our front and back of house staff. However, we are still struggling to cover rent and other various labor expenses as we’ve been facing a consistent net loss with sales dropping over 50%.

Since our grand opening, the past year and a half was a lot more challenging than the three years of prep if I was being quite candid. The food and service industry was completely foreign to me. These changes are far from ideal, but we are still staying strong as a team to help each other through these hard times. We’re all so passionate about what we do and are motivated to fight and push through together. Staying optimistic and truly grateful, we appreciate our family(you!)’s support through this time. Seeing familiar faces every day bring us an indescribable amount of consolation.

To our beloved Bun Appétit family, one thing remains constant in the midst of all the hardship: we are here for you. As you are for us. We want to be able to bring you a moment of peace and comfort, an escape from today’s reality. From the bottom of our hearts, we truly thank you.
