Support Cabo Verdes Local Talent
Donation protected
DreamBig CaboVerde is a group which supports the local talent on the island of Sal, Cabo Verde. This tiny island has produced some of the best all round watermen in the world and the next generation are no different. The problem is that these massively talented young riders have no access to manufacturers or shops and it is very difficult for them to travel to competitions. There is also a lack of equipment for them to train on which means that most of the time they are using borrowed euipment as and where they can. The video was made at the start of DreamBig to try and get some of the brands to sit up and take notice. Following the video 2 of the riders featured have been sponsored and people have been donating old equipment and wetsuits etc to DreamBig to be distributed to the local surfers. We have also made sure that we have created a payitforward culture within the group so the young surfers spend their time teaching the younger boys and girls on the beach and sharing the donations and knowledge that they have. We also hold monthly meetings where the surfers can share ideas and thank those that have donated.
Excitingly we have just had the very first GKA competition here in Sal and as part of this the DreamBig kitesurfers had a chance to enter a wildcard event to get them into the main competition. 4 local riders got through and they all managed to get as far as the 3rd round with one rider managing to get to the 4th (in their first ever competition). This has been a massive achievement and we want to continue. The next stage of the GKA is in Morocco and we would love to give some of the boys the opportunity to go and continue the competition alongside the world tour riders.
We are continuing our work promoting DreamBig and getting like minded people to donate old equipment to give opportunities to Cabo Verde's talented youth but at this moment we need some money to enable these riders to continue on the path to become professional athletes.
