Justice for Callie

Callie was left with a local pet sitter on June 13th for what was supposed to be a 7 day stay while her owner went on a 3 day cruise and a 3 day stay in Miami. She left special instructions that Callie needed to be confined to a fence because of her anxious and severe attachment to her primary owner Brandi. This was reiterated on multiple occasions and seemed to be a task this sitter was confident she could do.
Brandi was shocked and saddened to hear only 2 days later that Callie had gotten out of the fence because of preoccupied hands and an unlatched gate and she was unable to secure her. Brandi was only 1 day into her cruise. Day 2 passed with no eyes on her and day 3 only started to gain traction on locating her when Tucker K-9 Search and Rescue stepped in. We were all hopeful that we would have a successful rescue when she was finally spotted but still a little skittish to approach. Brandi and I then decided to give consent to set up a humane trap to finally secure her. We had also invested in two different companies to post paid ads, make phone calls, notify surrounding shelters and vets, etc. She was posted everywhere online and we were checking for leads from various resources multiple times a day. On the final day of the cruise Brandi was willing to cut the next part of her vacation short and go home to get Callie. That night she was ecstatic to learn that the K9 rescue had secured Callie back in the fence of the sitter and she sent her sister to finally bring her home. The husband of the sitter then started to yell at Callie about how much trouble she has caused and she was frightened and jumped out of the fence running in fear and just as quickly as she was secured moments before, she was hit by car sustaining life threatening injuries. Her sister then had to make decisions and let Brandi and her family say goodbye to her beloved baby via FaceTime. A healthy and vibrant 5 year old pup with so much life left died in 4 days when placed in the hands of this sitter. We believe this was negligence and abusive behaviors towards a dog who they were made aware was adopted from a shelter, with an unknown past and anxious and fearful behaviors. We're asking for support to press necessary charges, pay for vet bills and all other costs we may aquire. Callie was precious to us and irreplaceable but our hope is to bring her justice in the very least. This was a cruel and unnecessary way for her to die and we are all distraught without her. Help if you feel led.
Thank you.
