Family and friends, as some may know, Chuck's service dog Callie fell ill around March 5. Chuck took her to a local after-hours emergency vet clinic on March 7, 2025. An exam, Labs, and a 3D Xray were completed and nothing out of the ordinary was discovered, they had no answers. Just go home monitor, a Blan diet. Callies condition was worsening.
He follows up with Callie’s primary veterinarian on March 12. Who examined her looking for Addison Disease, followed up with cortisol base line blood work. The next day the levels were normal, ruling out Addisons disease. Dr Hall recommended at this time to transport to (UF) University of Florida Veterinary Animal Hospital Gainesville, Florida.
In the early morning of Friday March 14, and Callie is displaying more Neurological stroke like symptoms. The decision was made to transport her to UF. After Callie was examined. they requested a Neurological evaluation. Too which Neurologist Dr Tae Rim Kim DVM & Sheila Carrera- Justiz, DVM, - DACVIM (Neurology). Completed their Neurological evaluation and discussed a plan to do further blood panels, Ultrasound, and an MRI and possible Spinal Tap. Callie had severe inflammation of her brain with an unknown origin. All these testing were completed throughout the weekend with the final spinal tap completed on Monday March 17th. Her final diagnosis was made on Monday 17th to be (blind in both eye) Optic Neuritis and (MUE) Meningoencephalomyelits of unknown Etiology. So, in layman’s term this is an Inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system of autoimmune cause. And she is and will be continuing to be treated with a daily dose of prednisone and a series of Chemotherapy treatments. Callie responded extremely well with her first round of Chemo treatment at UF. She will need to continue a monthly series of Chemo as an outpatient with a cost up to $500 per treatment. Chuck has already endured a cost of almost 10,000.
Callie is Chucks service dog, she (Callie) was bred and trained "To Serve." and service animals love their jobs, and Callie equally loves to play.
On March 29, 2012, Chuck suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury, and in 2018 Callie became Chucks service dog and now he (Chuck), will be Callies service human. Chuck does live on a fixed income, and he needs our help. This Go Fund Me account will go directly to Chuck to help offset Callies medical expenses for her treatment moving forward. I ask that you please consider any assistance you can donate to Chuck and Callie, these two are truly Two peas in a pod at this moment. I thank you and God Bless.
