#CamiStrong❤️
We’ve set up this fundraiser for Cami, our fierce and fun-loving Friend, Mom, Sister, Daughter, and beloved preschool teacher. Cami’s Squad has come together with the hope of raising funds to help support this amazing lady with bills and living expenses as she continues to kick breast cancer’s butt.
On August 31, 2023, Cami was diagnosed with Stage 3 metastatic breast cancer. Doctors discovered a tumor in her right breast roughly the size of a peach after her first mammogram. Cami has HER2-positive breast cancer which is aggressive and fast-growing.
Since the diagnosis, Cami has undergone a mastectomy (where doctors also found cancer in 5 of her lymph nodes), six cycles of chemotherapy, targeted HER2 therapy, and 15 rounds of radiation at Kaiser in Dublin.
As if battling cancer wasn’t challenging enough, Cami’s car (and sole mode of transportation) was stolen and crashed on March 11, 2024 – the day of her first radiation appointment. The 10-year-old Hyundai was totaled.
Since then, Cami has relied on a network of friends and family to get her to and from doctor appointments and treatment – including infusions she continues to get every three weeks for 1 year until November 6th. When she gets to ring her BELL ❤️
Cami has been off work since October and her state disability payments stopped in March. While she hopes to return to her job as a preschool teacher on June 1, she can only go back part-time. Cami has developed lymphedema in her right arm as well as neuropathy in her hands, fingers, feet, and toes – all side effects of her cancer treatment.
“My body doesn’t move like it used to, my right arm doesn’t work like it used to,” Cami says. “But, I’m alive through all this. I’m not complaining, I’ll get back there slowly and surely.”
Despite losing her hair and other side effects of her treatment, Cami has fought breast cancer with determination and humor, even posing for photos kicking and punching Kaiser’s radiation machine at her last appointment.
In six months, Cami will undergo reconstructive surgery, which will require her to be off work for another six to eight weeks. Cami’s Support Squad hopes this fundraiser will help with groceries, bills, rent, and other expenses as Cami continues her battle.
