Hello! We are 16 Wrangell-and-Petersburg-based canoe people gearing up to paddle 150 miles to Juneau as part of Paddle to Celebration 2024. Our crew is Tlingit; Alaska Native; non-Native; men and women; young adult, middle-aged, and elder. Each one of us is bringing a beautiful story into this journey.

There are a lot of costs associated with this effort-- gear, food, support boat fuel, tickets back home from Juneau. For this GoFundMe we are trying to put together a need-based scholarship, or direct funding, for some members of our crew. We will leave Wrangell on May 29th, hit Petersburg May 30th and then we will be camping every night until we get to Juneau on June 4th just in time for our regional bi-annual festival. Seven days at sea.

Some of our members of our crew will lose out on work hours during the one-week trip. In addition to all the other costs of the Journey, this extra cost on these canoers means they will have to give up their usual pay for the entire time we are on the water. In a sense, these canoers will have to *pay* what they usually *earn*, in order to participate in this spiritual adventure.

For all members of our group, this is an important healing journey. We will be connecting with our indigenous culture-- out on the land far away from cell-reception, far away from drugs and alcohol. Just the water, our canoe, and each other. We will be doing long days of hard athletic labor and learning about ourselves and our spirits the whole way.
