Support Capilano University Workers
Donation protected
Inequity is alive and well at Capilano University where MoveUP members have been without a contract for 380 days (at the time of writing) and remain on strike.
After attempting mediation through the BC Labour Board, the two parties were unable to come to an agreement, leaving the members no choice but to issue 72 hours strike notice.
On May 17th, the union members began strategic job action by refusing overtime and participating in rotational strikes. After 3 weeks with no movement from the employer, the full membership has been on the picket line since June 6th.
After almost 7 weeks of picketing, many of these workers are feeling the financial strain that comes with job action.
As is often the case, this situation has highlighted the already existing inequities in our society by disproportionately impacting women, children, and marginalized groups.
Please help support these workers with their right to fight for a fair contract. Every dollar helps. All money raised will be donated directly to MoveUp Local 378 and used to support Capilano University workers.
(UPDATE: An agreement has been reached and ratified, officially ending the strike; however, the damage already done to Capilano University workers has been significant. We will therefore continue to raise money to maximize the impact of this fundraiser).
In solidarity.
