Carly is a loving fiancée, daughter/step-daughter, sister/step-sister, niece, cousin, Auntie, granddaughter, friend, and fur-Momma to Maverick. She is the owner of Carly Grogg Fitness & ISSA Certified Personal Trainer & Nutrition Coach and has helped many others work toward improving their health and life with a special focus on women cancer survivors.
This is not her first rodeo with cancer. She is faced with a three-peat and the battle for her life. Through it all, Carly has been an incredibly polite patient in the most vulnerable moments being dependent on healthcare. Many of her clinicians over the course of her treatments have said the same and to witness it firsthand is truly awe inspiring. Carly is driven to be educated and understand any and all options by asking well-thought questions about protocols, pros and cons, and possible outcomes. She respectfully challenges the status quo with a thoughtfully firm approach as a maestro of her own health journey. It’s absolutely astonishing to see.
Carly’s 1st Battle
At only 22 years old on January 4, 2018, Carly was diagnosed with ALL B-Cell leukemia which attacks the bone marrow. Over the next nine months she went through intensive chemotherapy treatments and fought her way into remission while enduring horrific side effects. For another year following, she had many follow-up bone biopsies and spinal taps until she finished the protocol. No one should have to endure what she went through and she did it with incredible grace and a silent courageousness that revealed her amazing inner strength.
After her first battle with cancer, Carly designed an inspired New Peaks hoodie sweatshirt that she custom made to seamlessly accommodate ports and PICC lines for easy IV access without needing to remove clothing during treatment. Born out of need with her creativity, she came up with a way to stay warm and clothed in the cold clinical environments. Unfortunately, after producing her custom hoodie prototype, she had to test it in a true environment wearing it throughout her second battle with cancer. And she stayed warm and launched her New Peaks business.
Carly’s 2nd Battle
At 27 years old, Carly had a relapse on March 12, 2023 and spent another 25 days in the hospital where she started immunotherapy treatment which helped to bolster her own immune system to fight the cancer. She was in remission for a little over a year.
Carly’s 3rd Battle
Now at 29 years old and only days ago on July 2, 2024 we learned that her leukemia returned. With each reoccurrence it becomes harder to treat and options become more limited. It was devastating news.
In true Carly form, she is taking the reigns in her care to undergo Car-T therapy where blood is collected, modified and reinjected back into her body to be able to fight the cancer. We have heard that many have achieved great outcomes with this approach, but it will be another tough road ahead.
The Goal
The financial burden of a five figure out of pocket deductible that Carly will have to meet (again) before insurance starts to cover is only part of the equation. Her fiance Ryan has been by her side since day one and will be with her in every step of her care. That means their income from his fishing charter business will grind to a halt, as he is the sole owner and boat captain. We are hoping and praying that Carly and Ryan can focus fully on her treatment and care without the insurmountable stress of undergoing treatment and the looming financial stress piled like a mountain on top.
