Support Carter James' Final Farewell

*A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1-4 PM on Sunday, March 30th at Rustand-Weiland Funeral Chapel in Madison SD with a time of sharing memories at 4 PM.

As we come to terms with my nephew Carter James' sudden passing, we are faced with the difficult task of arranging his arrival back to South Dakota, and also a final farewell. We want to give him the dignified and heartfelt send-off he deserves, but unfortunately, the financial burden of funeral expenses is overwhelming for my sister Sarah during this already challenging time.

No one in our family realized that behind Carter's big smile was so much pain, and it is this haunting thought that will forever remain a question for us all: why did we not see how sad Carter was? He was hardworking, caring, and always had a smile that was so gentle; he touched the lives of many, and to lose him in such a way is an absolute shock and tragedy that will haunt us all forever.

Through this page, I not only want to support my sister, but bring light to the suicide epidemic. Such a permanent decision, often made because of a temporary problem, has lifelong devastating outcomes that ripple across our society. The pain of the daily impact of Carter's loss is so real, the countless unanswered questions, and the acceptance that my family's lives will be lived without Carter forever, is something my sister and her little growing family will feel forever. We are hurting as we try to understand the hurt and pain that our nephew, brother, son, grandson, uncle, cousin, and friend was dealing with.
