Support Cellar Door Workers

Cellar Door Provisions Worker Fund
Cellar Door workers unanimously decided to temporarily shut all operations of our restaurant until we know that it is safe again to operate. We did this for three reasons:
1) Protect our workers.
2) Help slow the spread of COVID19.
3) Focus attention on the need to build public demand for government run social programs to support all workers in all industries now and forever.
Cellar Door has enough cash for one more payroll, and while we wait for President Trump, Congressperson Garcia, Governor Pritzker, State Representative Guzzardi, Mayor Lightfoot, City Councilperson Waguespack, and the many other officials elected to run our government to decide how to distribute public money to workers, we are looking to raise enough cash for a second payroll. We are highly sensitive to the tendency of fundraisers like this to divide workers when they need to be united and to distract us all from the need to build public demand for government run social programs to support all workers. For this reason, we are asking you to not just give money to support Cellar Door workers, but to also call your City Councilperson, your Mayor, your State Representative, your Governor, your Senator, your Congressperson, and your President demanding the rapid creation of government run social programs to support all workers in all industries that include but are not limited to:
Universal basic income
Universal healthcare
A moratorium on all evictions
A moratorium on all utility shutoffs
Rent and loan relief
Homes for the homeless
Immediate elimination of sales tax
Immediate elimination of employer tax for small businesses
Protection of existing minimum wage increases
Addition of more minimum wage increases
Ban on the sub-minimum wage (also known as the “tip credit”)
Increase of taxes on corporations, millionaires, and billionaires and close loopholes used by them to pay less in taxes
Regulation of pay discrepancies between workers and executives

We must overwhelm our city, state, federal, and global governments with these demands. We will be keeping our website updated with more actions that we are taking as we learn of them. Thank you for using your power to drive systemic change for a better future for everyone. We can’t wait to get back to working with our hearts, hands, minds, and each other to make things we find so honest, beautiful, nourishing, delicious, and fun. See you at the restaurant soon!
