Support Central Oregon Track and Field Athletes
Donation protected
What we are asking for: We are asking supporters of the Central Oregon track and field community to help the Mondo Track Club raise $15,000 to upgrade equipment at the Summit High School track that will benefit athletes across Central Oregon and beyond. The Mondo Track club is open to all local athletes - David Turnball is the head coach of the program.
Sponsorships: Individuals or businesses who donate $500 or more can choose to have their name or business name/logo painted on the side of the new elevated runway.
Why we are asking: The track facility at Summit High School in Bend, Oregon is an essential part of Central Oregon’s track and field community. As such, it is imperative that things are kept up to the sport standard so that the facility can continue to safely serve athletes from across the region at meets as well as offer elite competitions such as the Summit Invitational that will draw athletes from around the state and beyond.
Why we need financial support: Accessibility is a key value of both the Summit High and Mondo track programs; hence, participants are only charged $100 per athlete (plus, families are eligible for scholarships to defer costs). Most other elite sports programs in our community charge thousands of dollars for participation. In order to support the program’s mission to serve all students regardless of ability to pay, we must ask the community for support in keeping the facility and equipment up-to-date to meet the needs of this expanding sport in Central Oregon.
How the money will be used: Donations will be used for the following upgrades:
• Elevated runway that can be used for pole vault, long jump, and triple jump events (This runway will be transportable, so Central Oregon can accommodate more athletes at events, competitions, exhibitions and elite showcases throughout our region)
• New standards and pit platform for pole vault
• Laser measuring system to set bars (Currently Summit uses an outdated method that is time-consuming and imprecise. A laser measuring system will help speed up competition and meet the standard in the sport)
• New vaulting poles to accommodate the diverse needs of our athletes allowing more athletes to continue to progress and reach higher heights. These poles last and will help not only this generation of athletes, but many more to come.
Cost Saving Measures: Summit High coach Phillip Molebash, additional jump coaches, and student athletes have offered to donate their time and expertise to build the elevated runway at no cost to the program. This saves the program $15,000 since we will not need to pay the labor costs that were quoted by the runway manufacturer.
How you can help keep our athletes jumping and flying: We don’t often ask our community for funding, but we need to now in order to support our mission of providing an accessible sports program for all students that want to be involved. Summit High School alone has over 150 students on the team which is open to all students regardless of ability and experience. In order to maintain equipment that is safe and up to date, we ask that you lend us a hand in order to give our teens the opportunity to reap all the benefits that a sports program such as track can offer
