Support Chad to Captain His Medical Journey

Hi. Most of you know me as Sheryl Arenson from my work on camera and in commercials. I'm reaching out for your gracious support as I am hoping to raise the funds necessary to meet the varied out-of-pock medical expenses for "Captain" Chad Van Der Veur to improve his physical health and well-being!

When Chad married my sister Leeann 35 years ago, he was the most hard-working and ambitious guy I'd ever met, owning his first home, by the sweat of his brow, at the tender age of 22! Two beautiful daughters later, by age 30, Chad, nick-named "Captain" for his "can-do" and direct nature by my nick-naming father, recieved a shocking diagnosis: osteosarcoma. With Leeann by his side, Captain bravely battled for his life, enduring major surgeries, radiation and chemo, year after year. In all, Chad is a four-time cancer survivor, still living with tumors in his back and pelvis but they have not grown in 10 years... Did I mention this guy is a poster child for the word MIRACLE?

But Captain now faces a new health crisis... What?! Really?! Yes. And this is where support from the community comes in... My dear brother-in-law is now having to cope with the impact of a seizure disorder! During the course of his first seizure, Captain ripped the muscles in his right shoulder crashing into a wall during his fall. 1) Surgery is needed to alleviate pain and repair the muscles. His last set of seizures, three in one night, caused Chad to fracture several molar teeth that require 2) extensive dental work. In addition to the out-of-pocket hospital co-pays and hefty costs needed to address these concerns, his doctors' say two more surgeries would greatly improve his health plan, one of which is 3) a knee replacement so he can get back to exercising. 4) The last surgery needed is an abdominal hernia repair... Why not?! Captain in tenacious and resilient as hell, right?! But the reality is the man is not Job and he needs the financial burden to be lifted so he can rest and heal and get back his joy for living! When a person experiences medical trauma surviving cancer... other health concerns take a back seat with depression. Yes, it's a lot to take in for those able and willing to give a cash gift, but just imagine living in a body with all these moving parts to address at one time.
