SUPPORT CHARLIE IN HIS BATTLE AGAINST BRAIN CANCER

Sean and Tracy live in Barrie, Ontario, with their sons Charlie Luo (11) and Cullen (8), who

attend Algonquin Ridge ES. Recently, they received the devastating news that Charlie has a type

of brain cancer that currently has no cure, and surgery would be life-threatening so is not an

option at this time.

Charlie was a healthy and energetic child, but in late 2024 he began experiencing chronic

fatigue, drowsiness, hand tremors, blurred vision, balance issues, and difficulty

concentrating. On January 24th, an MRI at RVH revealed a tumor in his brain, with SickKids

Hospital in Toronto confirming their worst fears - High-Grade Diffuse Midline Glioma - a

highly malignant and aggressive tumor. Currently, Charlie is undergoing 30 days of radiation,

though the outcome remains uncertain. Meanwhile, doctors have placed him on a clinical trial

list for experimental treatments in hopes of finding an alternative option for him.

Charlie’s fight will be a long and difficult journey - he and Sean are staying in Toronto during

the week to go to Princess Margaret Hospital for daily radiation, Holland Bloorview

Rehabilitation Centre for recovery, and SickKids Hospital for follow-ups. To do so, Sean

had to quit his job, while Tracy stays home to care for Cullen. Needless to say, their financial

situation is now overwhelming due to medical expenses, frequent travel between Barrie and

Toronto, and daily living expenses, with no income.

As parents, we do whatever it takes to save our child, but the financial burden is beyond what

they can bear alone. We are reaching out to the community for support, hoping that our

collective generosity will enable them to focus solely on Charlie’s treatment.
