URGENT DONATIONS NEEDED! Help Cheddar Fight for His Life!
We need your urgent help and prayers for a former rescue kitten of ours, Cheddar (Chet), who is facing a tough battle. Cheddar, just shy of 5 months old, was neutered a little over a week ago and hasn't been himself since. On Wednesday, he only ate half of his meals, and by Thursday, he stopped eating entirely.
By Friday morning, Cheddar was having trouble breathing, so we rushed him to the vet. The X-rays showed his lungs were full of fluid, and FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) was suspected and recommended euthanasia. Despite the grim outlook, he was rushed to an ER vet 30 minutes away. They removed 175cc of fluid from his tiny 6 lb. body and started ruling out FIP based on the fluid characteristics. We are still waiting for the final test results, expected by Monday or Tuesday.
After spending $4,000 on his initial treatment, Cheddar came home on two different antibiotics. Unfortunately, by Friday night and Saturday morning, he still wasn't eating. Another visit to the ER vet revealed that the fluid was returning. He has been admitted again for more fluid drainage, IV treatment, and a feeding tube. The vets are giving him a little more than a 50% chance of recovery, but he needs a few days in the hospital to get the infection under control and keep the fluid out of his lungs.
A $6,000 down payment was required to start this critical treatment. This is where we need your help! Anything you can do to help will be immensely appreciated. We are doing everything we can to save our beloved Chet, but we need your support to cover these overwhelming medical expenses. $5, $10, or $25 from 20 people, 40, 50 people would go a long way to helping this beautiful boy.
Cheddar was fostered by one of our most experienced fosters. Her mother-in-law fell in love with Cheddar and brought him into her home in Florida, where he has been a cherished family member ever since.
Please keep Cheddar in your prayers and consider donating if you can. His big brother is anxiously awaiting his return, and we are all hoping for a miracle.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for any support you can provide.
**UPDATE 6/23: Cheddar is responding well to the IV antibiotics. He has a chest tube and although the drainage is still there, it has decreased significantly. They are feeding him through a nasogastric feeding tube, but he also ate a little bit of his favorite fancy feast today for dinner. They said he was quite hungry. He is also off of oxygen and in a regular kennel now.
** UPDATE 6/26: Cheddar is still at the vet. They were hoping to send him home today but the fluid level is still above where they would like him to be. They are hoping to send him home on Saturday. Please continue to keep him in your prayers.
