Support ‘Chef’ Pascal Simon’s Fight Against Brain Cancer

This is a fundraiser to support our incredible friend and Bake Austin’s Chef, Pascal Simon, in her fight against brain cancer.

Our friend, “Chef Pascal,” has brought so much light and joy to our Austin community.

Now, Pascal and her family need our support. It’s our turn to rally around them with love and offer the financial support necessary to help them through the difficult journey ahead.

Background

On September 18th, 2024, Pascal was admitted to the hospital in Munich, Germany, with signs of a stroke. Her left side was partially paralyzed, and she had lost full use of her left leg and arm.

An MRI and brain biopsy confirmed an aggressive form of brain cancer called glioblastoma. She will need at least 9 months of treatment to commence immediately.

What's next

Pascal’s family and doctors are optimistic that by acting quickly and treating aggressively, her quality of life can be restored and her life expectancy significantly prolonged.

While Pascal’s sons, Till, Tristan, and Christopher, will do whatever it takes to get Pascal the best possible care, all three are in their twenties and the financial impact of treatment is big.

Why we are fundraising

Since 2010, Pascal has shared her love of baking and cooking with hundreds of kids in our hometown and abroad. Her inspiration has changed lives and shaped the future of many young chefs.

She has been a dedicated and loving mother to her three sons. She has also been a caring friend to so many and the glue that holds our Austin community together with her yearly Thanksgiving parties and countless thoughtful acts like making dozens of birthday cakes from scratch!

We want her to continue to be the force in our community that she has always been and for this reason we are asking for your contributions to ensure that she can receive the essential treatment required.

To give you a clearer picture of how your donations can make an impact, we’ve highlighted some key areas where support is urgently needed:

Medical Treatment for Pascal

Treatment for this form of cancer is extremely expensive. Thus far, expenses include multiple ambulance rides, 2 days in the stroke unit, 8 days in the neurological wing of the hospital, 2 MRIs, a CT scan, a PET scan, and a brain biopsy. The recommended course of treatment will initially consist of 9 months of radiation and chemotherapy with bi-monthly MRIs and PET scans to monitor treatment progress. In addition, she will require daily transportation to the hospital from her brother's house for treatment and possible home care in the future. Your donations will help ensure Pascal receives the best possible care.

Travel

The more funds we raise, the more often the Simons can be together as a family during this challenging time. Currently, two of her sons, Till and Christopher, both live and work in California and will have to travel to Germany to spend time with their mom. Pascal was also told that she should make her bucket list. Knowing her, Pascal will have some amazing destinations on this list while also seeing friends. Your donations will ensure that a lack of resources won’t keep Pascal from making her wishes come true.

Ongoing Expenses

As an entrepreneur, Pascal’s income supports her daily expenses. We expect that she will not be able to work for at least the next year. She will need support to cover basic daily living costs like her housing, insurance, and food.
