Aid children of detained asylum seeker

Donation protected

Kenia is a Guatemalan asylum seeker, single mother, and domestic violence survivor currently detained at Mesa Verde Detention Center. This has left her children without monetary support, and they now need our community to rise up to the occasion and help sustain them as we fight for their mother's liberation. Lucas Solorzano will be supporting in ensuring the family receives all the funds gathered, thank you all so much!

BACKGROUND: Kenia fled violence from her abusive ex-partner due to threats against her life. Forced to find safety, she joined a caravan to Tijuana, Mexico by herself. Upon her arrival to San Ysidro, Kenia attempted to request asylum, but was forced to wait in Tijuana, Mexico while sleeping on the streets and trying to survive.

Out of desperation, Kenia had no other choice but to present herself to ICE. Kenia has been detained since December 17, 2018 in Mesa Verde Facility in Bakersfield. Unfortunately, Kenia's bond and asylum request have been denied. She remains detained while her appeal is in process.

Kenia needs community support while she is detained fighting for her liberation. Her only support system is her sister, Renata in Guatemala who is taking care of Kenia’s children. Funds will ensure Kenia’s children have food and shelter while they are separated countries away. Kenia’s story is one of the many voices of directly impacted survivors, and how gender violence impacts women like Kenia. The Trump administration has purposely changed the immigration laws to dehumanize and scapegoat women and survivors like Kenia.  Her courage to find safety and a better life for her family is an act of bravery.
