Support Chip Brown's Recovery and Bakery
Donation protected
Dear St Albans, Howard University, Washington Metropolitan and California Friends, I am writing you today to ask that you consider making a donation of any size, to our friend, Chip Brown, cupcake connoisseur and founder and owner of LA’s “Big Man Bakes.” Recently, the “Big Man” as we fondly call him, suffered two strokes within a matter of days. It is by the grace of God, a very skilled neurology team, amazing nurses, and Blue Cross Blue Shield’s making sure he had everything he needed, that approximately nine weeks later, Chip is back on his feet and making great strides every day. Anyone who knows Chip, knows that he has always been there for all of his friends, even nursing and caring for a dear friend until the day they died from complications from multiple sclerosis. Today, Chip needs our help. It is our hope and prayer that we raise $50,000 to help Chip and his beloved “Big Man Bakes” move forward. Medical bills and expenses related to his bakery have to be attended to while he continues to recuperate.
As you may know, Chip was actually a physician-in training when he began selling his cakes to colleagues at the hospital, more for fun than as an enterprise. At 6 foot 5 inches tall, the "Big Man," who looks like a linebacker, used baking as a stress reliever for all those long hours of study. He also discovered a natural correlation between chemistry in the lab and the chemistry of the perfect cake, as well as the art of healing through great cupcakes! His carrot cake is the best you will ever have! While navigating through careers in medicine, politics & technology, Chip ultimately collaborated with long time technology guru Claudine Grier, a former Microsoft executive, and together, they launched “Big Man Bakes” in July 2009 in the Old Bank District in downtown Los Angeles with a mission to win the hearts, minds & sweet appetites of folks around the globe. “Big Man Bakes” has appeared on the Food Network, CNN, and the Oprah Winfrey Network and has been listed as one of the top ten bakeries by the Los Angeles Times. Big Man Bakes has generously donated to many charitable organizations including Orphans International, the Pediatric Cancer Society, the Downtown Women`s Center, the Grand Performances Summer Concerts Series, the Coalition of Asian Pacific Islanders in Entertainment (Japan Tsunami Relief Fundraiser), the California African American Museum, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the Los Angeles Unified School District, and many downtown Los Angeles shelters and other charitable organizations.
The World of Big Man Bakes has been so sweet to all of us! Please join me in helping the Big Man and his beloved bakery get back on track!
