This is the story of my best friends dad, Chris McDonald’s hunting accident.
On the morning of October 14th, around 6 AM, Chris went to deer hunt. As he was climbing his tree stand at about 6:20am, when reaching the top of the deer stand, he went to pivot himself by pulling himself up with a branch. As he pulled on the branch, the branch gave way, causing Chris to fall 30ft to the the ground, landing on his back. While laying there unable to move much due to his pain/injuries, Chris waited till daylight to try to find his phone. His phone had fallen out of his pocket during the fall. Chris crawled around at the base of the tree for 2 hours looking for his phone. When he finally located his phone, he was unable to reach out for help due to having no service at his location. After 5 attempts that failed calling 911, Chris finally was able to reach a 911 operator by laying the phone on the ground, having them on speaker. He finally heard the operators voice and began to tell her what had happened as she kept him on the phone. First responders were able to ping his phone and located Chris an hour later after searching for him in the woods. Chris was then carried out of the woods where he was then transferred to Bloomington Hospital where his injuries were assessed. When being assessed by the Bloomington Trauma Team, their findings consisted of Broken Ribs on Left and Right side, which resulted in his Right Lung collapsing. Chris currently now has a chest tube in his Lung to assist with his breathing. He also had a Right Pelvic Fracture, 3 Broken Lower Vertebrae, Bleeding on the Brain as well as his abdominal area which resulted in him needing a blood transfusion. He was then life-lined to Methodist due to the extent of his injuries. When Methodist took over they found a C7 Fracture in his Neck. On October 16th, Chris was stable enough to have surgery to repair his Pelvis, Hip and Spine. Chris and his family have been told that he has 3 months until he can bear any kind weight to his hip. Chris will also need tons & tons of Physical Therapy to help him learn how to walk again.
Chris has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Anything you are able to donate will help Chris and his family during this trial. As medical bills pile & Chris unable to work due to this accident and his injuries, we want to help them any way we possibly can. Your donation will be very, very much appreciated.
We are all here for Chris and want to show him the support he has standing behind him. Thank you all so much. ❤️❤️❤️
