On Sunday, April 14, 2024, Christopher Rhodes, a healthy and physically fit 35-year-old, awoke and began to complain that the pupil was dilated in one of his eyes and he had trouble seeing out of it. He then experienced drooping of the eye along with a headache. He hadn’t sustained a fall, wasn’t involved in any type of accident, hadn’t hit his head.
His family decided to take him to the nearest Emergency Room where the medical staff immediately recognized his symptoms. Chris had suffered a brain stem bleed and hemorrhagic
stroke. He was transported to NCH downtown where he spent the next 5 weeks, including 3 weeks in the Neuro Critical Care unit. Chris was then transferred to Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital in Jacksonville, FL for an additional 3 weeks where he began to undergo therapy for
recovery.
Now being cared for by his parents at their home, Chris is unable to speak, eat or walk. He is confined to a wheelchair for the time being and will require extensive Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy in order to regain the abilities he has lost.
Chris understands what’s going on around him and appears to enjoy listening to his music and watching television. But you can tell that he is anxious to return to his previous life which
included working for Gulf Coast Deli Provisions, an authorized Boar’s Head local purveyor in Naples, FL where he was a valued employee. The amount of phone calls, texts and communications his family has received from his co-workers, management and his friends, is a reflection of
how well he was, and is thought of. Chris also enjoyed traveling, dining out, going to the movies, concerts, beach, and hanging out with his friends…everything most people take for
granted.
Your contribution to Chris’ GoFundMe campaign will make a huge difference in his journey to
recovery. By easing the financial burden which he is facing, you will enable his family to provide him with the best possible care and therapy he needs to improve.
