Support Chris's Battle with Autoimmune Encephalitis

Chris Billings has been in a coma at Stanford Hospital since January. His symptoms started in December when he missed family Christmas due to feeling ill. Chris was eventually admitted into the ICU Neurology department with a rare form of Viral Encephalitis. He continued to have an abundance of seizures and was diagnosed in April with Autoimmune Encephalitis. Due to the heavy medications to control his seizures, Chris has been in a medically induced coma for most of the past four months in the ICU.

Even with some of the most talented Neurology Doctors and teams of others, they have been challenged with finding a successful treatment plan due to the very complicated and uniqueness of Chris’s condition. This isn’t something you would ever expect to experience with a family member. His parents, Randy and Jill Billings, along with his wife, Laura, have taken turns staying with Chris at Stanford every day and most nights over the past four months. They have become excellent advocates for his treatment and pray for a miraculous breakthrough in his healing and recovery.

Chris has two young children (2 and 5) and a loving wife, Laura, who miss him very much. Due to the prolonged and reoccurring challenges, his prognosis will require long term care for up to a year or more. Chris’s illness has cost him his dream job working for the Oakdale School District, putting a financial burden on Laura and the kids.

We’re humbly asking for help to alleviate some of the financial stress of dealing with the mounting medical costs and for the unknown future costs associated with long term hospital care and rehabilitation that Chris will need once he leaves Stanford.
