Background:
Oct. 2014 Christene underwent an emergency hip replacement on her right hip. She had an appointment on Monday and had surgery that Friday, she was only 45 years old. After 6 years of pain and being bounced from doctor to doctor this was what she hoped would be the answer to her suffering, spoiler alert: it wasn’t.

Oct. 2016 Christene’s left hip needed replacement, for the same issue as the right. By June 2017 her left hip had dislocated 3X and the hip implant was surgically replaced.

Apr. 2018 the original titanium hip replacement unit broke inside her right hip and needed to be replaced. Over a 5 year period Christene underwent 4 total hip replacement surgeries. Yes, you read that right. Before she was 50 years old she had 4 total hip replacement surgeries; two on each hip.

Currently:
In May 2023, after 5 years without issue, Christene’s left hip dislocated again. While in a brace and recovering from that dislocation, Jun 2023 her left hip dislocated again, less than 30 days later. Since that day Christene has been on bed rest awaiting a 3rd hip replacement surgery on her left hip. Unable to work and earn wages, after exhausting every resource, Christene created this fundraiser to help with the financial responsibilities during her 6-month wait for disability pay to kick in. While restricted to 90% bed rest she is in a full leg brace and uses a walker to undergo extensive testing & specialty consultations. In order to help pass the time while sitting in bed over the last 8 weeks Christene has taught herself sound editing and volunteers reading audiobooks for the public library system.

The doctors are not rushing back into surgery before thoroughly examining all her physical attributes and developing a strategy to ensure whatever is causing the unit in her left hip to fail is corrected. As of August 21, 2023, no surgery date has been set.

After all the previous surgeries and a 16-week LOA she took to care for her 98-year-old grandmother in her last days (without an income); her nest egg is long gone.

The fundraiser goal of $6,000 is to cover living expenses, including Christmas 2023, for her and her 14-year-old son with Type 1 diabetes.
