My name is Fritz Garrecht and I am writing on behalf of my daughter, Christie. Last year, Christie was diagnosed with Young Onset Stage 3b colon cancer. To say that this cancer has disrupted the life of this 33-year-old Occupational Therapist for medically fragile children, is an understatement.
For Christie’s Sweet Sixteen, she had only one request. Christie wanted to visit St. Jude’s Children's Hospital. I made sure her wish was granted. Throughout her school years, high school and college, Christie started and participated in various ALS events both at Northport High School and at the Yankees farm system in Scranton, PA together with the likes of David Cone, Curtis Granderson, and Nick Swisher. With the help of her Wall Street Dad, Fritz, and several well known celebrities such as Billy Baldwin, the high school events raised almost $4 million for ALS research over the course of ten years. ChristIe’s reward for this achievement was that she was allowed to ring the closing bell at the NYSE. How exciting!
We ask that you continue to share her story with others so we can continue to take some financial stress off of her. Thank you.
Please know that the family is seeking help in conjunction with the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation. 75% of all monies raised will go directly to Christie while 25% will go to the Anthony Rizzo Family Foundation to help other people going through what Christie is going through.
In case you don’t know, Anthony Rizzo is the Yankees first baseman. He has been an All Star and Golden Glove winner multiple times. Most importantly, when Anthony was 18-years-old, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This almost ended his baseball career. For the past ten years, Anthony has decided to give back and started this organization to benefit pediatric cancer patients, other cancer patients and their families. Whatta guy!
