Honestly have been avoiding making this, because it’s been hard to acknowledge that my sister has actually been dealing with this. Plus, it’s not always easy to understand her medical conditions, as they’ve been complex and evolving.
For years Christina had a large lump on the side of her neck. She avoided it for some time after her endocrinologist in Vegas told her it was likely benign. As it continued to grow, she finally saw someone in Washington who immediately recommended surgery.
November 2021, Christina had surgery to remove the mass.
During surgery, they found that the mass was a tumor that had completely encased her main artery, nerve, and was attached to the muscle and thyroid.
Surgery took 4x longer than expected as it was difficult for them to remove the tumor. Once removed, they sent it for testing.
A few weeks later we found out that she had papillary/follicular thyroid cancer.
In July of 2022 she had her second surgery where they took out the remainder of her thyroid and cleaned out the rest of what they could of the cancer from her neck that was left over.
In October of 2022 she was put through a round of iodized radiation to clear out any remaining cancer cells they could.
Unfortunately, last month she had her 6-month scan, they found that her cancer had metastasized onto her neck bone/spine (C4-C6) which they saw through scans that it was growing fast. They immediately started a second round of 5 session laser radiation treatments.
We won’t know more until she has a scan next month.
It has really felt like an uphill battle for her. Even between all of the treatments and the surgery, she often just feels like trash. It’s a 50/50 chance each day that she has either a migraine, is lethargic, or is in pain. All the while, being a full time employee, wife, and Mom.
I am starting this GoFundMe not knowing her prognosis, but knowing her debt is rapidly stacking. It is already over $10,000, and who knows how long this will take.
I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if I didn’t do everything I could to help her in every way.
