Support Christopher's Fight Against Leukemia
Donation protected
On Saturday, September 7th, my older brother Christopher went to urgent care for chest pain and a week later was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a rare and aggressive form of cancer. His diagnosis was confirmed two days before his 42nd birthday.
His medical team discovered a 7.8 cm mass on his chest wall and recommended that he begin an intense chemotherapy regimen that will occur for 4 days at a time every 21 days for approximately 2 years. He completed the first round in late September and fortunately, his body is doing what it’s supposed to be doing. A bone marrow transplant may be considered in 12 months.
We are all shocked and heartbroken after hearing the news of his diagnosis. He was not feeling symptoms of any kind just a few short weeks ago. Although the prognosis is good due to his age and overall health profile, his cancer journey will likely take a toll on him physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Not only is Christopher the best big brother a sister could ask for, he is also a loving husband to his wife Sondra, and father to his daughter Anila (3) and son Orion (18 mos.). Chris has been the primary caregiver since his two children were born. Sondra has been making trips to the hospital almost daily, in addition to caring for her two small children and working her full-time job. We all feel fortunate that Chris can receive treatment in Boston from Mass General Brigham, one of the premier hospitals in the world. But there are countless logistical challenges to this new schedule and the travel that’s involved.
I am asking you to consider donating in the hopes of easing some of the financial burden that a sudden cancer diagnosis creates. This includes the cost of hiring a part-time child care professional so that Sondra is able to continue working and keep their much-needed health insurance benefits. There are already many unforeseen medical costs outside of insurance and the potential for more in the future. Donations will also support the cost of nourishing and healthy meals and transportation expenses for the many trips between home and the hospital.
Our entire family sincerely thanks you for any contribution you are able to make.
Please continue to keep Chris and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
