Cierra M. Holmes, affectionally called “Cita” by her friends was born to the late John Givens and Tennille Holmes on March 26, 1993, in Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of 13, she was diagnosed with diabetes. It affected her health in many ways throughout her life. Cierra’s mother was a young teen at the time, and both she and her mother were raised by her grandfather by himself. As she grew older, this chronic disease caused her to have strokes, seizures and a heart attack.
Cierra attended public schools in Baltimore County and Baltimore City. She had many talents. She was an artist and she played the piano. She loved music, especially RAP. She wrote many songs, five of which ended up on an EP Rap Album which she made entitled “Cita’s World.” Cierra had a way with words and could talk her way out of any situation. Her Rap music, as friends described it, “made no sense, but it sounded good.” They always enjoyed listening to her and laughing at the funny things she said while rapping. Her Rap videos can be watched on YouTube.
Cierra always had a smile on her face, especially when she was having fun with friends, partying and telling jokes. She was a fun-loving person who was loyal and kind-hearted. Cierra had a best friend, Janae, whom she hung out with from time-to-time.
Cierra was a great cook. She could create meals that made you want to eat yourself silly. Even when she was not able to walk, she would give instructions to her fiancé, Sharif (Bean), and the meals tasted as if she prepared them herself. She could have been a “Great Chef.”
Cierra had been ill for some time and was hospitalized often. After several strokes and other health issues, she became confined to a wheelchair in order to get around. She had a heart attack just before Thanksgiving and had to be hospitalized again. During her recent stay at the hospital, she had to have both legs amputated above the knee and a finger. The doctor said more amputations had to be done. She was visited every day by her fiancé, mother and caseworker. She experienced pain discomfort and several seizures. On Tuesday, December 17th at 5:45 p.m., surrounded by her mother and fiancé, she gained her wings at age 31.
Due to her illness, she was not able to get life or burial insurance, and her finances were depleted. We have set up this “GoFundMe” site with the hope that friends and family will assist in the burial expenses. We are hoping to raise $6300.00 by December 30, 2024. We pray that we will meet that goal for Cierra. Thank you and God bless.
