Support Cindy and her boys move through this time of loss

Donation protected
Billy Gibbs was a retired Alabaster firefighter who, with his wife Cindy, had been raising three fine young men as he struggled for the past ten years with congestive heart failure. He walked daily with our Lord and Savior Jesus during his earthly journey. Billy began the eternal part of his journey on January 18 at the age of 45.

Cindy, a nurse in Scottsboro, spent the last weeks of Billy's life lovingly caring for him. Their sons Tucker and Aubrey, who still live at home with their mom, will now continue their journey toward becoming the men God created them to be without the daily touch from their dad.

A Visitation for Friends and Family and a Celebration of Life service will be held at First Baptist Church Alabaster beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1. In lieu of flowers, you may wish to bless Billy’s family with contributions to this GoFundMe account set up for Cindy and her boys.

Billy's Obituary
William T. (Billy) Gibbs, retired Alabaster firefighter and EMT, reached the end of his earthly journey and began his eternal life surrounded by his family at his home in Woodville, AL on January 18. He came to the end of his earthly journey after a ten-year struggle with congestive heart failure. Loved by many, Billy leaves behind his best friend and wife, Cindy Harris Gibbs, sons Tucker and Aubrey Gibbs, Marshall Murner (Alana), parents Steve and Denise Gibbs, brother Jeremy Gibbs, and sister Elizabeth Gibbs along with nephews Morgan, Cameron, and Jordan Gibbs. Billy was devoted to his dogs, Cricket and Finn, who were loyal companions for Billy and who will miss him dearly.

Throughout his life, Billy loved the outdoors and spent many happy hours kayaking, hunting, fishing, and camping with his lifelong partner, Cindy, who shared his passion for these hobbies. Billy was also a licensed amateur radio operator whose call sign was W4FRQ and he, along with Cindy, enjoyed connecting with people across the globe. Billy enjoyed years of adventure as a Boy Scout and Montevallo Fire Explorer. While in high school at Shelby Academy, Billy played on both the offensive and defensive lines on the varsity football team. During his junior year of high school, Billy lost his right hand as he loaded a cannon while participating in a civil war reenactment. Along with some help from the UAB prosthetics clinic, he continued playing football for his senior year. With grit and determination, Billy had a remarkable senior year on the football field and was chosen as an all-state player.

Billy did not let the loss of his hand hinder him from reaching his lifelong dream of becoming a professional firefighter. He graduated from the Alabama Fire College and remains as one of only a very small number of upper extremity amputees to pass all of the physical skill tests required to become an Alabama firefighter. Billy was a member of the Alabaster Fire Department for close to 15 years before taking a medical retirement due to his heart condition. Billy’s Alabaster Fire Department brothers continued to be family for him and Cindy throughout the remainder of his life.
