We are continuing to reach out to the community in New Haven for further support, partnership, and participation. The project consists of CITYarts Pieces for Peace workshops, an exhibition of youth artworks, and a public art peace mural. This project is within the CITYarts 50 States of Peace initiative under our Young Minds Build Bridges program. Youth have the opportunity to develop ideas for the mural focused on the theme of peace. New Haven was chosen to represent the state of CT in the CITYarts 50 States of Peace initiative and will specifically highlight its collaboration with the local community. This project aims to bring attention to New Haven, CT as one of the cities on the registry of the United Nation’s International Association of Peace Messenger Cities. This initiative brings focus to issues of communication, collaboration, equity, diversity, and inclusion under the banner of peace. These will all be explored by youth through art education workshops. These workshops cultivate the leadership potentials of youth while bringing them into dialogue with each other and giving them a sense of shared ownership over the project, building their critical and creative thinking skills while introducing them to career paths in art and education professions.
The CITYarts Pieces for Peace exhibition was on view at Creative Arts Workshop. CITYarts Pieces for Peace artworks from around the world were displayed next to artworks from New Haven youth.
