We have a date! We’ll sort of…
Claudia will be airlifted from Wagga Wagga Base hospital on Monday to The Alfred hospital in Melbourne for surgery this week!
We are all so excited, scared and anxious!
A bit of background to the surgery being moved up, Claudia was admitted to CCU at Wagga Base on 16th October released on 20th only to return by Ambulance on the 26th due to severe pain.
Please send positive vibes
Much love to you all,
Beck

EDIT: thank you to all who have been so kind, we appreciate every single one of you! xo
Claudia had her telehealth video consult with Dr Atsuo Doi: Cardiothoracic Surgery & Transplantation from the Alfred on 28th September and was advised on 9th October her condition is Category 2 which means her operation will be conducted within 90 days, as we were expecting sooner this is yet another setback for our girl to have her life back to some form of normality anytime soon...... thank you all again for your thoughts, prayers and generosity, I will post the operation date once we receive news.
Much love to you all xo
Hi, my name is Rebecca, I never thought I would ever have to ask for help especially on a platform such as GoFundMe, and yet here I am...
I'm here to help support my daughter, Claudia, through what has been an absolute traumatising time for her and her little family, and the end is nowhere in sight at the time of me writing this.
Claudia is in need of Open Embolectomy or Pulmonary Thromboendarterectomy Surgery, during this open heart procedure, surgeons make an incision through the sternum, they cut and divide the sternum in order to access the heart, lungs and nearby blood vessels, which will take 6-8 hours, this is due to having two massive blood clots in her lung, one being in the bottom of her right lung and the other in the top of the left lung spreading into the arteries of her heart. The clots have now turned into scar tissue, hence the need such and extreme surgery that can only be done at The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne.
Claudia is required to go to Melbourne a week prior to her operation for further test, she will spend at least ten days in the ICU at the hospital in an induced coma, after surgery up to three weeks for post-surgery treatment were accommodation is not provided.
Claudia is currently on maternity leave, which will cease in a couple of weeks, and she was due to return to work in November and will not be back at work for at least 4 to 6 months and is unable to get any of her super nor claim for any payments due to her condition not being terminal.
I am asking for support, as it is necessary…. Claudia’s partner has definitely been super supportive all while working 7 days a week to pay the bills a keep a roof over their head, unfortunately Baily is unable to be with Claudia at the time of surgery due to single income family and that itself is so emotionally draining on him.
Funds raised will be used to pay their bills, mortgage and put food on the table and help with the additional cost of accommodation whilst in Melbourne, the extra funds will help to ease the tremendous emotional and financial burden they are both dealing with…… Claudia will not be able to lift anything over 1kg for at least 12 weeks, imagine a young mother not being able to hug her child let alone do any of the things she loves doing for him on a daily.
A little about my girl, Claudia is always on the go, never one to sit still for too long from racing go-karts from the age of 7, All Star Cheerleading from 12 and backing it up with Oztag at the age of 13..... Never a chance for anyone to rest with Cyclone Claudia around :)
Story goes Claudia met a boy, well not just any boy... as she said to me one day "Mum, I'm getting a country boy and moving..... Too Wagga Wagga?" little did I know she was testing me because she'd already found the country boy and was going for a visit!!
Well things went well in Wagga Wagga and off she trotted, four hours away from her family into the loving arms of her now Wagga family and the Nye family welcomed her like one of their own....to be honest they had no choice, Claudz has a way of being welcomed into everyone's home, she's thoughtful, respectful and hella cheeky!!!!
Claudia and her country boy, whose name is Bailey, were smitten, and then there is Bailey's one and only, Elora 2 going on 3, Claudia and Elora became friends fast. Big plans came hard and fast with these three, working, engaged, co-parenting, building their first home, and a future for their little family of three.....but wait there's more, in the way of Nate Jordan Nye born 09.03.23 and here is where life really took a turn for the four of them, and all of our extended family.
Claudia had issues with her kidneys during her second trimester in pregnancy that required three stent placement surgeries in her blocked right Ureter during this time after a lot of pain and suffering, through it all she soldered on like a champ!!
Nate Jordan Nye was due to be born on 27th March, and due to her condition, they had to bring her due date forward by induction to 12th March. Reduced movement saw her being induced her on 8th March and our perfect little man was born naturally after a very difficult delivery due to low platelets. Claudia was unable to have an Epidural due to possible internal bleeding into her spine, bleeding we were told could have the possibility of putting her into a wheelchair for the rest of her life.
Claudia endured so much pain during labour she finally signed off to have a C-section as she was absolutely spent… 90m minutes later the maternity nurse advised they were 30 minutes out from theatre let’s check how far you are dilated ….Claudia was good to go 10cms and Nate was on his way!
Claudia felt out of breath after Nate was born and advised the nurse's she was short on breath and her lips were tingling, the nurse who replied dismissed these concerns and stated, “you’ve just had a baby it will get better”.
Claudia had pains in her right shoulder and upper back area six days after giving birth, being Wednesday 15th and felt worse on Thursday morning and called an ambulance…LUCKY SHE DID!
Claudia has two “massive” blood clots, one in each lung and she is very lucky she knew she did not feel right! The doctor said to her on the Saturday “you are lucky you are not in a box” meaning a coffin.
Claudia was in the Critical Care Unit since her admission and has had so many needles, cannulas and drugs to keep her going…. 1ml of morphine every 5 minutes just to keep her pain at bay, and to top it off pleurisy and pneumonia. My girl has been to war with her own body for what seems to be forever, whilst trying to grow her perfect little human.
Claudia returned to Wollongong with me on 31.03.2023 to rest, leaving her finance four hours away, both Bailey and I had to return to work.
During her stay she admitted to Wollongong hospital on 13.04.2023, as she still could not walk without being out of breath, a Pulmonary Thrombectomy was necessary, so a catheter inserted into the groin fed up through the arteries into the heart and lungs all whilst Claudia was awake! The catheter was unable to be penetrated the clots due to them hardening and the alternative was to spray the exterior and surrounding arteries in hope to break down the clots.
On the 28.06.2023 Claudia, Bailey, Elle and Nate came down for her follow up appointment another Echocardiogram and CT scan on Thursday and Friday ready for follow up appointment on Tuesday. The doctor to call me at work on Monday advising Claudia must call the Dr immediately and admitted to Wollongong hospital on Monday due to the clots had not dissipated and remained the same size.
Thanks to an eagle-eyed nurse who spotted floaters in the tube of her blood the testing shifted direction and with the help of the haematologist specialty team she was released the following Friday, monitored by daily visits from the community nurse and the pathologist.
She was then referred to Associate Professor Dr Edmund Lau at RPA Sydney who conduct further test and yet another procedure called Right Heart Catheter before being referred for admission to The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne for a Pulmonary Endarterectomy, date is yet to be set but have been advised it will be before Christmas.
I appreciate you all taking the time to read and hope you understand the importance of supporting someone in their time of need, not only after families have been left devastated.
Much love to you all,
Beck
